Fancier auto rickshaw Right: crappy auto rickshaw
These little rickshaws, or "autos" as some locals call them, are absolutely crazy! Some of them are nicer than others, some have pictures of hindu deities on the walls, while others have pictures of Bollywood actors. Very few have music but some more affluent drivers will have the local station playing. They drive irradically, weaving in and out of traffic and fitting between buses and other vehicles just so that we can arrive at our destination .5 seconds faster. If we are walking down the road, drivers will slow down to see if we want a ride. When we stop to haggle with one, about 3 more pull up and we're bound to find one driver who will agree to take us to our across-town destination for as little as 20 rupees (50 rupees = $1). Dev Patel takes an auto when he's following Salim to the mob bosses house to see Latika in Slumdog Millionaire :)
looking at the rickshaw pictures that is very interesting. Are they gas, or electric? It thought they were all pulled by men. I guess that's the orient.

You know I took a trip. I drove to Utah, Idaho, and Montana. I went to visit family, and had a great time. My allergies were horrible, but I survived. I'm a women like my granddaugter. I'm working out 3 days a week. And just to let you kmow I have a hot date with an old boyfriend. He is coming June 19th. I'll keep you posted.

ReplyDeleteThe auto rickshaws are gas I believe. There are rickshaws that are pulled on bikes but they're outlawed in certain cities or areas within the cities. They had them all over Agra but not in Delhi. These are the "car" version of rickshaws. They're super dangerous I believe but cheap :)
Other than that, please don't worry!! It's really safe here I promise. I'm a smart girl...plus I'm tough and kick ass if need be ;) we have mace also. Love you tons!
